Corporate leaders congregate to create a unified vision for climate change at SM Sustainability Forum PH 2022

The SM Group, in partnership with WWF-Philippines, will gather some of the country’s most prominent corporate leaders at the UNITED FOR CLIMATE: Sustainability Forum PH 2022 on November 28 at the Conrad Manila.

The forum aims to bring together the private sector and the wider community in a collective response to the climate crisis.

Keynote speakers Sec. Antonia “Toni” Yulo-Loyzaga of the Department of Environment and National Resources (DENR) and Maria Isabel Garcia of WWF-Philippines will open the forum by providing the greater context for unified climate change, from the country’s climate change strategy and its impact on biodiversity and our national resources.

Mr. Hans Sy, Jr. of the SM Group will present SM’s commitment to climate action. This will kick off the forum’s fireside chats with corporate leaders: Raymond Rufino of NEO, David Aboitiz of the Aboitiz Group, Edwin Africa of Century Pacific, Francis Gotianun of Filinvest Hospitality Corporation, Hindy Weber of Hindy Weber Everyday, Juan Manuel Hoyos of Nissan Philippines, and David Lim of Universal Robina Corporation.

The fireside chats allow them to share insights and ideas about how companies can practice sustainability, engage their stakeholders, and find solutions that protect the environment, serve the community, and improve business efficiency.

“Many companies have sustainability programs, but until now we have tended to work in silos,” said Timothy Daniels, Head of Investor Relations and Sustainability at SM Investments Corporation.  “The forum today creates a platform for the private sector to craft a united vision and action plan, so we can align our efforts to address some of the most important issues facing the world and here in the Philippines.”

The forum will be the start of several sector-wide discussions on innovative climate strategies and practical approaches to climate change.

“UNITED FOR CLIMATE builds a community of leaders that is committed to driving ambitious climate action in the Philippines,” said Koleen Davila Palaganas, Head of the SM Group Sustainability Office at SM Investments Corporation. “It is time to break the silos. We are all stakeholders in the environment, and now we can take synchronized steps towards the goal of sustainability.”
