17 Filipino firms vie for ASEAN recognition

(12 November 2015. Pasay City, Philippines) The ASEAN Business Advisory Council Philippines recognized 17 homegrown businesses for their outstanding contribution to the growth and prosperity of the Philippine economy and for helping elevate the country’s image in the ASEAN. 

These Filipino companies will represent the country in the regional ASEAN Business Awards this November in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, where they will compete with nominees from other country representatives in the ASEAN region and vie for the top plum in the regional competition.  The country’s nominees were cited during the ASEAN Business Awards Night presented by the ABAC and the Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PCCI) recently at the Mariott Hotel, Manila. 

“We would like to commend these companies who will serve as our ambassadors to the ASEAN. Their stories are a source of great inspiration for all Philippine companies who now face major changes in the wake of increasing globalization. We share in the country’s pride and wish them well in the regional competition,” SM Investments Corporation Vice Chair and BDO Chairperson Teresita Sy-Coson said.

Among the local enterprises honored under the SME (Small and Medium Enterprises) Excellence Awards were:  Aretei Foods Corporation(Employment & Innovation categories), Great Image Services Corporation (Employment, Growth, & Innovation categories), J CHEMIE Laboratories Inc., Kalibbr Technology Ventures Inc. (Growth & Innovation categories), Lot’s A Pizza Franchise Systems, Inc. (Growth), Max’s Restaurant (Growth), Nature’s Legacy Eximport, Inc. (Innovation), Nisco Philippines Enterprise,  Sunlight Foods Corporation (Employment, Growth, Innovation categories), Tagum City Council of Women, Inc., Oryspa Spa Solutions Inc. (Healthcare), Penalosa Farms (employment, Innovation, and CSR categories), Bel Mondo Italia Corporation (Innovation), and Seaoil (Employment).  

Nominees under the ASEAN Priority Integration Sectors Excellence Awards were LBC Express (Logistics), SL Agritech Corporation (Agro-based), Lifeline Ambulance Rescue, Inc., J Chemie Laboratories, and Oryspa Spa Solutions (Healthcare).  Individual category nominees for the Youth Entrepreneur Awards were Bel Mondo Italia Corporation and Kalibbr Technology Ventures, Inc. while nominees for the Women Entrepreneur Awards were Nisco Philippines Enterprise, Lots A Pizza, Tagum City Council Inc., Oryspa Solutions Inc., and J CHEMIE Laboratories, Inc.

The ASEAN Business Awards Philippines aims to recognize outstanding local enterprises who serve as examples in raising awareness about the ASEAN Economic Community.  It is the local counterpart of the ASEAN Business Awards, established by the ASEAN Business Advisory Council to recognize enterprises in the region that have contributed to the growth of the ASEAN economy. 

The ASEAN Business Advisory Council is headed by prominent Filipino business leaders such as SM’s Sy-Coson, Philippine Long Distance Telephone Co. Chairman Manuel V. Pangilinan, and Interior Basics Export Corp. President Jay Y. Yuvallos.

Since its launch in 2007, the annual awards have recognized more than 60 companies throughout the region that excel in the categories of Growth, Employment, Innovation, and Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR).
