Pasay City, Metro Manila—The SM group announced the publication of the sustainability reports of all its listed companies during SM Investments Corporation’s (SMIC) annual stockholders’ meeting last April 24, 2019, at the SMX Convention Center.

In his speech, SMIC President and CEO Frederic C. DyBuncio reiterated SM’s commitment towards sustainable business practices in order to create positive impact in the communities it serves and to the nation.

“Our strong performance in 2018 came hand-in-hand with our equally strong commitment to our environmental, social, and governance responsibilities,” he said.

All the sustainability reports completed the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) Materiality Disclosures Service, while the SM Foundation annual report serves as the first corporate foundation in the Philippines to gain GRI certification. GRI  is an independent international organization that has pioneered sustainability reporting since 1997, helping businesses and governments worldwide understand and communicate their impact on critical sustainability issues.

The publication of the sustainability reports came one year ahead of the Securities and Exchange Commission’s mandate for publicly listed companies to report their economic, social, and governance impacts starting 2020, as part of the country’s campaign towards sustainable business practices.
