Bali, Indonesia—SM Investments Corporation (SMIC) garnered the Gold Award for its 2018 Sustainability Report during the Asia Sustainability Reporting Rating (ASR Rating) Awards 2019. This is the second Gold award that SMIC received following the distinction for the company’s 2017 Sustainability Report. The awarding ceremony was held on November 23, 2019 at The Westin Resort in Bali, Indonesia.

Spearheaded by the National Center for Sustainability Reporting (NCSR), the ASR Rating is given to companies in Asia that have successfully communicated their sustainability performance through their comprehensive reports aligned with the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) Standards.

Dr. Ali Darwin, Chairman of the NCSR, lauded SMIC in achieving the Gold Award for two consecutive years, “Congratulations to SM Investments Corporation for its second Gold Rank Award. Our ASR Rating 2019 Jury, composed of professors from various universities within the ASEAN region, has found SMIC’s report to be in accordance with the GRI Standards, thus the recognition.”

The NCSR is an independent organization consisting of organizations and professional individuals who have the vision and commitment to implement and develop Sustainable Development in Indonesia and the region. It is one of the pioneer training partners of GRI for Southeast Asia covering Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore, and the Philippines. The graduates of the GRI-certified training course on sustainability reporting become members of the Institute of Certified Sustainability Practitioners (ICSP).

Executive Director of the University of Asia and the Pacific (UA&P) Center for Social Responsibility, Colin Legarde Hubo, who served as one of the event’s guest speakers also commended SMIC for this distinction, “I congratulate SMIC for gaining the Gold Award at the Asia Sustainability Reporting Rating Awards. SMIC is one of the Philippine companies recognized for taking the lead in pursuing sustainable business practices, not only in the Philippines but also in the ASEAN region.”

SMIC’s 2018 Sustainability Report is the company’s fifth sustainability report outlining the company’s economic, environmental, social, and governance performance for 2018. It is a substantiation of SM’s commitment to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, the principles of the United Nations Global Compact, the Greenhouse Gas Protocol and the United Nations International Strategy for Disaster Reduction.
