Over the years, SM has not only brought shopping, leisure, and entertainment excitement to millions of Filipinos through its stores and malls, but has made world-class homes attainable to more Filipinos through SM Development Corporation.
Now one of the leading real estate companies in the country, SMDC designs world-class properties and builds integrated lifestyle communities where individuals and families can flourish.
As of 2018, SMDC has launched 35 projects in prime locations in Metro Manila, Cavite, Rizal, Bulacan, and Pampanga. It has sold more than 91,000 units in the Philippines and abroad, and has turned over more than 53,000 units in 21 of SMDC’s completed and ready for occupancy projects. And residents are loving life at SMDC.
Retired police chief superintendent Francis Llamas and his wife Dolly first learned about Light Residences through a USbased former high school classmate, who emailed them to check on this property. They were happy with what they saw, fell in love with the place, and ended up buying a unit there instead. Today, they consider it the perfect home for them.
Anne Macaraeg always loved the Mall of Asia area, and would jog all the way there from Caloocan when she was still in high school. She always dreamed of owning a property by the bay. This became possible when she and husband Aaron, who started their family at a young age and used to live separately with their families, decided to settle together in Sea — and later — Shell Residences. This not only brought them closer together, but made them more entrepreneurial.
When Aiyana K. Perlas enrolled in a BS Psychology course at De La Salle University in Taft Avenue, her parents rented — and later bought a unit — at SMDC’s Green Residences where she could stay during school days. This would definitely save a lot of travel time from their family residence in Katipunan, Quezon City, and allow her to focus more on her school.
As sales director for SMDC’s corporate accounts group, Reena Marie Novales is happy that her work gives her the opportunity to “be an instrument in helping my clients achieve their dreams. Owning a condo, after all, is everyone’s dream.”
Francis and Dolly, Anne and Aaron, Aiyana, and Reena join in SM 60 th anniversary celebrations by sharing their inspiring stories in the My Story,
My SM series featuring 60 lives touched by 60 years of SM. With its roots in retailing, SM has over the years become part of the lives of millions of Filipinos — customers, business partners, employees — each with a wonderful story to tell.
They share with us why they have learned to love living in — and in Reena’s case working for — SMDC’s vertical villages.
Francis and Dolly Llamas say that Light’s strategic location along EDSA makes it easier for them to travel to Congress where they are assigned some work. It is also a stone’s throw away from their ancestral home and the church where they serve. Light Residences also has a mall, where they enjoy trying out the many restaurants, watch movies, and go down to the medical clinic when they have any health problems.
Anne and Aaron say that living at Shell Residences has made their family closer. Here, one can marvel at majestic sunsets, hold memorable events at the exclusive clubhouse, and enjoy 365 days of shopping, dining, and world-class entertainment. They have acquired several SMDC units in the bay area “because it’s a nice investment,” and say that moving to the area has helped in their furniture and interior design businesses.
Aiyana says that Green’s Student Lounge allows her to concentrate on her lessons; and also loves the fact that she is able to workout every day in the gym and pool area. “My parents chose Green Residences because of its location, tight security, amenities, and reputation,” she says. “They are confident I have a good place to stay while pursuing my college degree.”
Reena says it gives her great joy to see how happy and thankful her clients are when their units are turned over. Working at SMDC has also made her realize her own dream. Widowed at a young age, “SMDC has helped me financially, raise my two kids, and send them to good schools. It has also been part of my healing journey, part of discovering gratitude with grief.”
