Wherever SM operates, it works with the communities to identify their needs. After years of consultation and engagement, the group has identified key areas that are common to its host communities. These pertain to basic needs such as access to inclusive and equitable education, quality health care and well-being, adequate food suuply through farmers' training, shelter and assistance during calamities. Committed to create inclusive growth, SM developed a community impact template to illustrate the various areas in which it provides direct social support to its host communities.
It works in collaboration with SM Foundation, SM Care, BDO Foundation and its employees. It also empowers its human capital by providing avenues for professional growth and promoting work-life balance for over-all well-being.
SM Foundation is the social development arm of the SM group of companies. Its mission is to create opportunities by providing social investments in education, health, farmers’ training and disaster response.
SM Cares, a division of SM Foundation which focuses on mall-based programs, which aims to make SM malls a “mall for all.” It manages the corporate social responsibility program of SM Prime with programs for children and the youth, women and breastfeeding mothers, persons with disabilities (PWDS), senior citizens, overseas Filipino workers (OFW) and the environment.

BDO Foundation aims to help marginalized members of society affected by natural or man-made disasters cope with their condition through a full-cycle disaster response program.
The SM group launched a holistic disaster rehabilitation effort in response to the devastation of Typhoon Yolanda (international name: Haiyan) which left millions of Filipinos devastated – losing homes, livelihood and family.
