A GIANT grocery store affiliated with the SM Food Retail Group is set to start its construction in Tacloban City before 2013 ends, said city administrator John Tecson Lim.
Lim said that the Savemore Market branch in the city would be located along Justice Romualdez, within the city’s commercial district.
Savemore Market branch, which will have four levels, will occupy about two hectares lot bought by the SM management years ago, Lim said during a media forum.
Lim added that the construction of the Savemore Market in the city would start by October this year.
The opening of the Savemore Market in Tacloban is expected to generate employment and income for the City Government, Lim said.
Based on their website, Savemore Market, which is a chain of grocery stores under the SM Food Retail Group, now has 34 branches nationwide.
The SM management has decided not to open its hypermarket branch at the New Bus Terminal at Abucay district here after the Robinsons Land Corp. (RLC) bought a lot at the said bus terminal for its second shopping mall branch.
According to Lim, the SM management decided to cancel its plan to build its hypermarket at the said terminal considering that their competitor would be occupying a bigger area compared to the lot that they have considered as a possible site. (Leyte Samar Daily Express)
