SM Supermalls wins in 2017 VM Christmas Awards in London

SM Supermalls scored a win at the prestigious Visual Merchandising (VM) Christmas Awards for transforming SM Mall of Asia into a whimsical Christmas Wonderland. The mall-wide installation was recognized under the ‘Shopping Centres, Town Centres and Airports’ category at the VM Christmas Awards ceremonies on May 9 at the Retail Design Expo held at the Olympia Exhibition Centre in London, UK.

SM was also a finalist under the ‘Most Outstanding Christmas Feature or Prop’ category for SM City Pampanga’s Merry Nutcracker Christmas Centerpiece, inspired by The Nutcracker by Alexandre Dumas – a 25-ft grand Christmas display featuring a larger-than-life ballerina and two monumental nutcrackers.

The Visual Merchandising (VM) Christmas Awards is the only awards event dedicated to recognize the most outstanding Christmas visual merchandising executions – Christmas displays, windows and interiors – across the world. Top visual merchandisers, marketing experts and retail designers from UK comprise the prestigious and independent judging panel.

The Retail Design Expo is Europe’s premier annual event for inspiration and innovation in retail design, marketing, shopfitting and visual merchandising. On its third year, it has become the definitive annual convention of the retail, brands, hospitality and leisure sector that gathers retail designers, marketers, visual merchandisers, architects and shopfitters worldwide.

SM Supermalls is the sole Philippine shopping mall brand to receive a VM Christmas Award, and was the only Philippine brand shortlisted in the categories, along with Selfridges, QIC Grand Central and Victoria Garden.

Being once again recognized globally, these stellar milestones continue to fuel SM Supermalls’ passion for innovation in making the mall-going experience fun and extraordinary for shoppers.

The mall-wide installation showcased 5-feet in diameter Christmas balls hung in the mall atrium, more than 10,000 sets of LED lights, and 70 pieces of Christmas characters ranging from 5-feet to 8-feet in height. The mall atrium also featured clusters of trees adorned with snowflakes and twinkling lights, while pocket areas in the mall were dressed up with cuddly Santas joined by adorable reindeers, snowmen, and elves. Inspired by the wishes of every child, the interactive installations evoked moments of joy from kids and kids-at-heart, aimed to give shoppers the most memorable holiday season.
