SM Retail Inc. and the Philippine Statistics Authority (formerly known as NSO) recently renewed their partnership in the implementation of PSA’s Batch Request Quey System (BREQS) at SM Business Centers.
The joint venture, which started in January 2010, extends the availability of the Census Serbilis Center services to SM Business Centers nationwide, bringing it closer to the public.
With that, shoppers can apply for birth, marriage and death certificates issued by the Philippine Statistics Authority, seven days a week at SM Business Centers located in 53 SM malls and 11 Walter Mart community malls. This will make applications convenient for mallgoers as processing and pick-up of the civil registry documents take only three days for Metro Manila and seven days for the provincial branches.
The Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) is the government agency that produces the official and controlling statistics of the government. Under RA No. 10625 (Philippine Statistical Act of 2013), it is primarily responsible for all national censuses and surveys, sectoral statistics, consolidation of selected administrative recording systems and compilation of the national accounts. Its functions include preparing and conducting periodic censuses on population, housing, agriculture, fisheries, business, industry and other sectors of the economy; and administering civil registration functions in the country.
To formalize the partnership, SM Retail Inc. recently signed a Memorandum of Agreement with the Philippine Statistics Authority at the PSA Office, Centris 3 in Quezon City. PSA deputy national statistician Estela De Guzman and Civil Registration Service assistant national statistician Editha Orcilla graced the MOA signing together with SM Retail Inc. president Jorge Mendiola and SM Mart Inc. senior assistant vice president for Business Center Operations Dennis Yaw.
Over the past years, the SM Business Center and SM Bills Payment counters have become a one-stop shop for government services so that customers can transact these requirements while shopping in the malls. SM Business Centers offer PRC renewals of professional licenses; DTI consumer welfare services and renewal of business name; and Ombudsman Clearance applications.
Moreover, SM Bills Payment counters located in The SM Store, SM Supermarket, SM Hypermarket and Savemore, accept payments for contributions and/or loans for the Social Security System, Pag-IBIG, PhilHealth, National Home Mortgage Finance Corporation and Armed Forces and Police Mutual Benefit Association Inc. (AFPMBAI).
Apart from government services, the SM Bills Payment counters also accept payments for electric and water utilities, credit cards, telecoms, cable and Internet, insurance and pre-need and real estate companies; the reloading of Easytrip and RFID; and payments for ticket purchases with Philippine Airlines, Cebu Pacific, Cathay Pacific and AirAsia.
